“ When our hearts and minds are touched by music, emotions, inspiration, creativity, expression, and so much more flourish within us as a gift so pure and rich, and we emit its beauty from our soul as the light we share with the world around us.” - Deborah Rose
Music is the art concerned with combining vocal or instrumental sounds for beauty of form or emotional expression, usually according to cultural standards of rhythm, melody, and in most Western music harmony.
Music permeates every human society. It is a protean art; it lends itself easily to alliances with words, as in song, and with physical movement, as in dance. Music has been an adjunct to ritual and drama and has been credited with reflecting and influencing human emotion. Music is a beautiful form of expression, a powerful form of storytelling, a unifying force. We are united in many ways, but through music, our hearts become entwined in a communicative dance that implores reflection and understanding.
Music touches every individual differently because our experiences and emotional state are as unique as snowflakes. Yet ironically, that very difference among us inexplicably links us together as people, enabling us to connect to the message conveyed in a song - vocally, instrumentally, or lyrically, or some combination, and ultimately realize commonalities in our humanity.
Music has a profound effect on our body, mind, and soul. Research has shown that music with slower tempo beats promotes a calm, meditative state. With alterations in brain waves come changes in other bodily functions. Those governed by the autonomic nervous system, such as breathing and heart rate can also be altered by the changes music can bring. This can activate the relaxation response.
Music enables us to experience that innermost space that is pure peace and tranquility. When we are awakened to our own bliss, we connect with others in that pure oneness.
